Today, January 6th, Apple released Mac OS X 10.6.6 to all Mac users through Software Update. The update is free to all users running Mac OS X 10.6.x. After the 120MB download, you see what the update brings: The Mac App Store. For anybody that hasn’t payed attention to anything on our site lately, the Mac App Store is just like the App Store found on iOS devices, but for your Mac. You have the same tabs and organization the original App Store has, so organization and sorting through all the applications is very simple. Browse by features, categories or purchases to find what ever you’re looking for. You can also check for updates in Apps you have, search for something specific, or see your purchase history.
The user-interface is very attractive, organized and simplistic, as in the photos and YouTube video(s) below. Just like on iOS, click the price to buy it, and have it downloaded right to the dock. To read more, see screenshots and read reviews, click the photo or name of the app. There is also a section for quick links over in the right, to your iTunes account, support, and link to redeem gift cards. Yes, this is just like iTunes, everything you buy can either come from your credit card or store credit. Apps are broken up just as before, top paid, top free, whats hot, new and noteworthy, and now staff favorites. Of course, you can browse by category as I said before.
The update involves rebooting the computer, so it’s very easy and just takes a few minutes. I think the software is easy to use, and great to have to be able to bring a whole market of applications, and revenue, to the Mac and developing countries. Another wing dinger, Apple.
