The iPod Touch and iPhone are very close in many categories but surprisingly enough apple has had to cut costs on the iPod Touch. So in this article I’m going to go over what features the iphone has over the iPod Touch. So to start the competition the iPhone 4 has a choice of 16GB or 32GB flash memory and the iPod Touch has a choice of 8GB, 32GB or 64GB flash memory. They both have “Retina” displays however, the iPhone has IPS technology. Essentially that makes the iPhone’s Retina display a tad better. The iPhone comes in at a very slim .37 inches, however the iPod Touch comes in at a razor thin .28. This makes the new iPod Touch incredibly thin and it’s also lighter than the iPhone 4. Both the iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch have 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi but the 802.11n is in 2.4 GHz only, meaning it is not as fast as say the 802.11n in your macbook. Now where they really cut costs for the new iPod Touch is the ram. The ram in the iPhone 4 is 512 MB where the new iPod Touch is only 256. The iPod Touch has the same amount of ram as the iPad. This is the first time in the history of the iPod Touch that is is not on par with the iPhone 4 speed wise. The iPod Touch has 40 hours of Audio playback and 7 hours of video playback, the iPhone 4 has 40 hours of audio playback and 10 hours of video. The camera on the iPod Touch is great however does not stand up to the iPhone 4’s. The rear camera on the iPod Touch shoots in a fair resolution at 960×720, however this is dwarfed by the iPhone 4’s whopping 1936×2592 resolution. Both devices can record 720p video with the rear facing camera. The front facing camera for Facetime is the same .3 megapixel on both devices. The iPhone 4 has a LED flash that can also be used as a flashlight. This LED is very bright and does really helps with photos in low lighting conditions, the iPod Touch has no LED flash whatsoever. So to conclude, The iPhone has more ram, better camera setup and a better retina display. If you are thinking about buying either they are both great devices and you’ll be happy with either, however I should have a winner. So the winner for this hardware comparison has to go to the iPhone 4. The iPod Touch is a great device and if your thinking about getting one do not let this article sway you.
