iPhone 4 “Death Grip” Fix Coming…Finally?
Most iPhone 4 users agree- there is a major problem with the new cellular device from Apple, Inc. The supposedly revolutionary design of the new stainless-steel-embedded antenna has become the talking point of the anti-Apple world, and is presenting an unforseen road block for the Cupertino electronics corporation.
The solutions to this widespread problem are but a few: Recall, Selective Replacement, Repair, or Add-on Hardware Fix. (Apple also cites that a firmware update will fix the problem, but former iPhone models with the same software don’t have any change in reception). A recall is inordinately expensive, and would cause untold damage to the reputation and position of Apple. Selective Replacement (replacing only those that are brought in for replacement) may be an option, however, it remains very costly. A repair would be out of character for Apple-considering their outlook on mobile devices- they treat iPods, for example, as one, inseperable unit.
An Add-On Hardware Fix is the most likely candidate. It would involve giving “bumpers”, a nearly $29 case-like cover for the outer rim of the iPhone, out to anyone with a problem, or even anyone who purchased the defective phone.
A press conference is being held at Apple’s headquarters at 1PM today. Many expect Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple, to own up to the design flaw and provide a solution. But, many more expect that Jobs won’t stand up and admit a failure. “I’d be stunned to see Steve announce a design flaw with the new phone,” said Fox News tech expert Clayton Morris. “It’s one thing to apologize for the shoddy MobileMe rollout, which Steve did a few years ago. It’s quite a different thing to say ‘our phone doesn’t work.’”
