Almost everyone who has jailbroken their iDevice in the past will know about WinterBoard. WinterBoard is a theming application for iDevices, and is essential for jailbreakers who are into customizing their iDevice. WinterBoard does have it’s ups and downs though. Throughout this post, I am going to try my best to cover WinterBoard as an application.
–Theme Availability–
As far as available themes goes, in Cydia, on the default repositories there are about 20,000 themes are available. More themes are available on sites like Deviantart and can be added to the devices theme library via SSH or a App like iPhone Explorer. With all the themes available you should be able to find something you like!
–Updates–
WinterBoard has been around since iOS 2 and updates are scarce. Some of the built in themes like No Labels don’t work. So you can’t open Cydia and find a update very often if ever.
–Theme Setup–
The time and difficulty of theme setup really depends on the theme. Some of the iNav themes have taken me 30 minutes to an hour while others are easy as just tapping it in WinterBoard, and doing a respring, which doesn’t take long. Your lucky if you get some of them to even work.
–Theme Creation–
Creating themes for WinterBoard is simple, if you just want a background, and some icons, or a little harder if you want to customize the lock screen, wi-fi bars, etc.
Overall I think winterboard is a great application and the jailbreaking community would not be what it is today if this app did not exist. I just wish it got a update.
