If you’re not a fan of Ubuntu’s new unity desktop, before you ditch it completely, you might want to try customizing it a bit.  Now, as hard as this may sound, it’s actually quite simple and doesn’t require any reboots to see the changes.  Now despite how simple doing this really is you still need to download something, so open your Ubuntu Software Center, and in the search field, type ccsm.  Install the first one called a”Advanced Desktop Effects Settings.”  That’s all we need so once the installation is finished you can close out of the software center.  Open the dash and type ccsm and open the only result.  Once this opens, go down to Desktop, and Ubuntu Unity Plugin.  From here you can modify Unity’s settings.
