That’s right, the racing app we all know and own on our iOS devices is now available in the Mac App Store! It costs $6.99, and is exactly what you’d expect if you’re at all familiar with the iOS version. Put simply, Asphalt 6 for Mac is exactly the same as Asphalt 6 on iOS, just scaled to a larger resolution, and built to be controlled with a mouse and a keyboard. I purchased the application on it’s first day in the store, Sunday. The 589MB download was quick and easy off Apple’s server. Upon launching the App, it became apparent how quick the app really is, and how good the graphics look in 1080p on a 23 inch monitor. It takes only seconds to load on my 2010 Macbook Pro 13 inch. The frame-rates are very good, as well as the quality of individual objects.
Once you’ve got the main menu open, it’s exactly like iOS. You have your career mode for racing in different levels and unlocking places and cars, multiplayer, and free race. The same cars, options, tracks, and levels are present. There are some glitches, but we expect them to be corrected very soon. The biggest glitch I have noted in over 20 games is the fact that, occasionally, the steering gets stuck going left or right. It’s easy to get out of this, just click the opposite direction for a moment, and then go back on the gas.
Controlling the car is super easy. You use the spacebar for nitro, and the four arrow keys to move around. Hit the down arrow key to brake, or drift. Right for right, left for left, and up to accelerate. I thought it would be difficult to drive the car, but after a few games, I felt like it’s easier to drive than in iOS. After 20 games now, it feels much more accurate than iOS control.
