At Apple’s iPhone 7 event back in September, Nintendo took a few moments on stage to announce and show off Super Mario Run, a new take on a classic game, coming officially to iPhone for the first time ever. No specific release date was given, but that changed today.

Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Run will be available on December 15th in 151 countries. Some content within the game will be available for free, likely the first few levels from each of the game’s 3 modes, but users who want the full experience will have to unlock it using an in-app purchase that will cost $9.99.

“The wait is almost over for a Super Mario game that can be played on mobile devices,” Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said. “Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Runbrings a new take on the series’ beloved action-platforming gameplay to iPhone and iPad for the first time.”

On the game’s website, Nintendo touts it as “a new kind of Mario you can play with one hand,” which will certainly make the game easy to play on mobile devices, and it’s likely to be a big hit when it launches, as over 20 million people have already signed up to receive a notification when the game launches. Nintendo has also confirmed that Super Mario Run will make its way to Android devices, but no further information about that release has been provided as of now.

I’m definitely looking forward to the launch of the game, and am one of the 20 million who signed up for the notification. What about you? Are you looking forward to playing Super Mario Run on your phone?
