Ringing Bells, an Indian company, recently announced the Freedom251, a budget smartphone costing just 251 rupees, our approximately $4 USD.

For a price that low, you get a phone with decent specs. The Freedom251 boasts a 4″ IPS display with a 1.3 GHz Quad Core Processor, 1 GB RAM, and 8 GB of storage. In the camera department, the phone has a 3.2 megapixel rear facing camera with LED flash and a 0.3 megapixel front camera. While it doesn’t support LTE, the device has 3G, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth connectivity along with an FM radio. Battery life should be okay with the phone’s 1450 maH battery.

While this seems like an incredible deal, it seems a bit fishy that the phone is selling for $4 unsubsidized when many have said that a phone with these specs shouldn’t sell for less than $40.

While we can’t pick one up right away, we’re not sure that we would want to anyway. It’s possible that we’ll pick one up after they become available again and we’re able to see reviews from other users to determine rather the device is really worth spending the money on.

Would you buy a Freedom251 or would you rather buy that sandwich at McDonald’s? Let us know your thoughts!
