A Long Road Trip Ends in PlayStation Territory
When we rebooted TechInform, one of our internal bets was on Xbox loosening its grip on exclusives — and now, here we are: Forza Horizon 5 is officially hitting PlayStation 5.
I’ll be honest: I tried Forza Horizon 5 on PC back when it launched… and bounced off. It looked great, played fine, but just didn’t hook me. Fast forward to 2025: I’ve got a shiny new PS5, a PS Portal gathering dust, and a growing pile of unplayed games. So I did something bold (and kind of financially irresponsible): I grabbed the $99.99 Premium Edition of FH5 and committed to finally giving it a real shot.
And wow — it absolutely clicked.
Wait, Forza on PlayStation? Yep. Here’s What’s Going On
What changed:
Forza Horizon 5, developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios, was previously locked to Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. But as Microsoft shifts toward platform-agnostic revenue (more games, more places), FH5 is crossing the console aisle. It follows a growing list of former Xbox exclusives heading to PS5.
Why it matters:
This isn’t just a niche port. Forza Horizon 5 is the premier open-world racer — less simulation, more sensation. It’s about exploring gorgeous biomes, racing across varied terrain, and unlocking wild cars you didn’t even know you loved. PS5 owners now get to experience all of that with no strings attached.
What PS5 Players Are Getting
- Full base game
- Dynamic weather and seasonal changes
- Online multiplayer and crossplay
- A massive car list with deep customization
- Expansions (if you go Premium) like Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure
- And yeah, it plays great on a standard PS5
Which Version Should You Get? Here’s the Breakdown
There are three editions available, depending on your budget and FOMO levels:
- Standard Edition – $59.99
- Full base game only
- Deluxe Edition – $79.99
- Full game + Car Pass (42 extra cars over time)
- Premium Edition – $99.99
- Full game + Car Pass
- Hot Wheels & Rally Adventure expansions
- VIP Membership (double credits, exclusive perks)
- Welcome Pack (bonus house, XP boosts, starter cars)
- Early access (April 25 start date)
I went Premium. Pricey, but honestly? The early access and content pile-up gave me just enough incentive to dive in and stick with it.
Performance Mode Delivers on PS5
I’ve been playing in Performance Mode, and the game runs like a dream. No dropped frames, no hiccups — just pure speed and great visuals.
And while PS5 Pro players might get a touch more polish, my standard PS5 has held up beautifully. Even remote play via PS Portal has been surprisingly fun — especially for car browsing or quick open-world bursts.
Favorite Rides So Far
Let’s talk about cars — because that’s what FH5 is really about.
Right now, I’m completely obsessed with:
- My Cadillac limo, tuned to hit 240 MPH. Yes, really. It’s big, it’s dumb, and it’s amazing.
- My BMW M3, styled to look just like the Need for Speed: Most Wanted version. Looks like a street racing legend, drives like one too.
And honestly? I don’t know if I’ve ever played a car game with this many cars. I have no idea what the actual number is — but it feels like every cool car known to mankind is in this game.
Trevor Score: 9/10 — Premium Fun, Finally Clicking
This isn’t a formal review — it’s just how I felt using this thing. A gut-check from someone who actually used it.
For me, this wasn’t just about trying a game — it was about finally getting my PS5 to pull its weight. Forza Horizon 5 has delivered, big time.
Between the massive content drops, smooth performance, and flat-out fun of tearing through Mexico’s diverse environments, I’m finally in. It only loses a point for the up-front cost barrier, but honestly, I get it.
Final Verdict: FH5 on PS5 Is the Kickstart I Needed
If you’ve got a PS5 and haven’t found that “just one more race” kind of game, Forza Horizon 5 might be your spark. It was mine.
The Premium Edition gave me early access and a pile of content, and it lit the fire I needed to really dive in. And even on a standard PS5, it’s a fast, fluid, and ridiculously good-looking experience.
See You in Mexico — and Hopefully on More Platforms
I hope this is just the beginning of Xbox titles making the leap to other platforms. Halo, Microsoft Flight Simulator — bring ’em on. Not just for PS5, but for the Switch 2 too.
I’ve got a Switch 2 on pre-order, and I’m committing to it being my exclusive console “for a while.” (Article on that coming soon, lol.)
If this is the new era of platform-sharing, I’m all in. And I can’t wait to see what comes next.
The game is officially out today — so go grab it, pick your dream ride, and hit the road.
