Tomorrow will mark 3 months since Nintendo released the NES Classic, a miniature version of the original NES that will emulates Nintendo classics. Given that amount of time, the mini console is still nearly impossible to find at its MSRP of just $59.99.

Many scalpers have picked up on the popularity and scarcity and have bought up as much of the small supply as they could, selling them for upwards of $140 on eBay, Amazon, and even Walmart.com. Unless you’re rolling in cash (if so, send us some?), it makes little to no sense to spend more than twice the asking price of the console to pick one up, just for a bit of nostalgia.

Even worse than the scalpers are the major retailers *cough* GameStop *cough* that feel the need to bundle the console with worthless crap just to raise the praise of it. Backpacks, lamps, and other junk have been just a few of the bundles GameStop has sold, and even though the price usually jumps to over $100, they all sell out just as quickly as if the console was being sold on its own.

At Nintendo’s investor briefing last week, it was announced that 1.5 million NES Classic units have already been sold. Nintendo also apologized for the struggle in keeping the tiny console in stock.

We apologize to our consumers and retail partners for the inconvenience caused by product shortages. Some parts require time to procure, but we are working to increase production.

If you’re like me, and looking for an NES Classic, we have a few ways to help you increase the chance of scoring a classic console at the MSRP, instead of being forced to shell out a ton of extra cash. After poking around on the internet, we discovered the website NowInStock.net, which allows users to keep track of when popular items become available, and will even send notifications via email or text message so you don’t miss the deals.

If you read through the comments on NowInStock’s website, you may notice references to BrickSeek, another website that will allow you to check local stores such as Target & Walmart to see when inventory of the NES Classic becomes available.

Hopefully Nintendo will get their production ramped up and allow the NES Classic to become much easier to find soon, but in the meantime, we’ll keep you posted on any updates we hear regarding their availability.
