Earlier today, AFTVnews.com discovered a page on Amazon’s website teasing what they’ve called the Fire TV Cube, which is likely to be a combination Echo and Fire TV experience.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this concept. Last year, a photo showing the now current generation Fire TV dongle and this new device was leaked, but nothing other than that 4K Fire TV dongle upgrade came of it. Now, it looks like Amazon is preparing to release the other half of that teaser.
From what we’ve been able to see so far, the Fire TV Cube will essentially be a Fire TV with an Echo Dot attached to the top, allowing users to talk to Alexa without the need for the voice remote that is currently required to use Alexa with Fire TV devices. The combo device will also likely feature speakers so that it can be used like an Echo even when the television is powered off. It will also likely receive the same far-field microphones found on the Echo Dot meaning it should have no problem picking up voices from across the room.
As of now, Amazon hasn’t posted much information about the Fire TV Cube but allows users to sign up for an email list to be notified when more information is available, hopefully soon, as this seems like it will be an incredibly cool addition to the Fire TV family that combines 2 of Amazon’s best hardware devices.
Personally. if the price is right, I’ll likely be picking one up as I could use another Fire TV in my house and having the added Echo functionality would be a nice bonus. What are your thoughts on the Fire TV Cube? Will you be picking one up when they become available?
