Facebook has confirmed that they’ve been working on a new video based application for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and select smart television sets. The news broke via a blog post from Facebook discussing ways to watch video content on the social media site, which also announced that autoplaying videos in the News Feed will now feature audio, unless your device’s sound is muted.
“Our video app for TV is a new way to enjoy Facebook videos on a bigger screen. Last year we rolled out the ability for you to stream videos from Facebook to your TV, and today’s announcement expands this capability,” Facebook says in a blog post announcing the update. The new app will allow users to watch videos from friends, pages they like, and the most popular videos from around the web.
In addition, Facebook is taking on YouTube with a feature similar to the Watch Later playlist, allowing users to mark videos they would like to watch at a later time to be played using the TV app.
The new app will roll out to the various app stores “soon” and should be an interesting addition to the arsenal of applications to see all of the content shared on Facebook. Will you be using the new Facebook Videos app once it lands on your TV set? Let us know your thoughts with a comment below!
