Earlier this week, Ryan Schultz, a daily vlogger and friend of our site talked about how he noticed that the 2nd generation Apple TV was selling for more than they were originally worth on eBay and other sites online.

Why might the second generation Apple TV be worth more than a brand new one, you ask? The second generation happens to be the newest version of Apple set top box that can be jailbroken to run other apps and make the experience something other than what Apple had originally intended.

After talking to Ryan, and a few other friends, I decided to go ahead and list my Apple TV on eBay earlier today, and within minutes I had an offer for nearly double the value of the Apple TV. (Unfortunately, it’ll only be about 1.5 times the original value once eBay takes their piece of the pie, but that’s another story for another post.)

If you own a second generation Apple TV, and would like to upgrade to the newer model, that supports 1080p and is generally a faster experience, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to list it on eBay and see how much you can make.

Now, the big question for me, at least, is rather to wait for an upgraded model to become available, or to purchase the 3rd generation Apple TV right now. Feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts below.
